Great feedback for 1Password integration

Since putting the new 1Password integration out on pre-release, the feedback has been great! There has been a few really important improvements which have come from this too:

  1. Don’t show items which were in 1Password’s trash - I didn’t have any items in my trash so had completely overlooked this.
  2. Show the site URL in the subtext as some users have 1Password bookmarks with the same name.
  3. An option for a ‘reload’ keyword to reload the 1Password bookmark cache (as Alfred doesn’t automatically monitor this to keep lightweight)
  4. Better detection of the installation of 1Password itself, and always show the 1Password features > prefs (but disabled) if 1Password isn’t installed

These improvements are now available in 1.2 pre-release build 219.

I’m really glad I made the decision to sneak the 1Password integration into 1.2 as this has been requested for quite some time! :)

Cheers,
Andrew

1Password integration is available in the latest 1.2 pre-release. Open Alfred’s preferences to Features > 1Password and tick to enable it. You then need to click ‘Reload Bookmarks’ which will import and cache your 1Password bookmarks.
Use the ‘1p’ keyword to find your bookmarks, for example, show Alfred and type:
1p gmail

Select some text anywhere in OS X and press cmd+shift+g to search for that text in Google. This is in the 1.2 [Powerpack] release coming soon! :)

This is by no means the awesome TextExpander, but it scratches a little itch of being able to have one or two of my favourite snippets available for directly pasting on a hotkey such as an email signature!
This is available in the 1.2 build 211 development release which I just uploaded for your testing pleasure :)

The ability to merge the currently selected text into the previous clipboard history item has been requested regularly since I added the clipboard history feature into Alfred’s Powerpack. I wasn’t really sure of the benefit of this feature until I actually implemented it and have to say it’s absolutely rockin’.
If you have previously copied some text, then select a new word or sentence… hold down cmd and double tap C, then the selected text will be appended to the previous clipboard history item (separated by a space). It’s super useful / time saving if you want to build up a sentence in the clipboard history before pasting into the destination.
This feature will be in 1.2 :)

I added the ability in Alfred 1.1 to define the actions performed when selecting fields in Alfred Powerpack’s contact card viewer. A recent tweet made me realised that I had left off the ability to do the same with the contact’s address.
1.1.1 will add the ability to pass the contact’s address to a URL Scheme (defaults to a Google maps search) or to an installed extension of your choice.

A feature I have sneaked into Alfred 1.1 which is due soon is some advanced options for showing Alfred. In this example, you assign a separate global hotkey which will show Alfred with the currently selected text and add the google keyword to the beginning, setting you up ready for a google search.
I know many people have been looking for this kind of feature :)

The Powerpack contact viewer is about to get quite a bit better in 1.0.1, supporting the additional fields available in OS X Lion 10.7 including the social fields such as Twitter.
I’ve also added the ability to specify the action which occurs when pressing return on the item in the contact viewer. This is ‘copy to clipboard’ by default, but also pass to a URL scheme, or even one of your Extensions :)

Sometimes, it’s the simple things…
When you try to import an extension of the same name, rather than just greying out the import button, the button is now changed to “Replace”. This means that if you are updating an extension, you no longer need to delete it first… just download and double click.
This will be making its way into 1.0.1 in the nearish future.

One rather nice feature coming to 1.0.1 is the ability to select an extension as the default action for one of your filters. In the screenshot above, this means I can filter by PNG files with the keyword fw and when I find the file I’m looking for, simply press return to open this in Fireworks. The ‘Open in Fireworks’ action is a simple extension which takes the path and passes it to Fireworks.
This opens up a world of possibilities e.g…
Find image and upload to Flickr
Copy file to Dropbox public folder and get link
Create short URL for selected Safari Bookmark
Attach a file to an Evernote
Ultimately, if set up properly, it will both clean up the results so you can find the file you are looking for quicker THEN perform your desired action without having to bring up the action panel. Less keypresses all round :)
