Alfred 1.1 pre-release b189 [GA candidate]

Weeee, another pre-release build…

As explained in an earlier tumblr, Alfred has dev releases and pre-releases which subsequently lead to a general release. The dev builds are unfinished / untested and exist mostly to allow for rolling testing and to satisfy people who want to get their mitts on things early…

The pre-release builds, however, are closer to what I feel are ready for release. Users can easily opt into the pre-release builds by ticking pre-release in Alfred’s update prefs and as such, I get a much higher number of users using this compared to the dev build - this time around, there has been a good 6 to 7 thousand users in the past week who have updated to 1.1, a significant number of people to stumble across quirks or bugs.

This has proved to be extremely valuable as it found some 1.1 bugs worth fixing:

  • With the new improvements to the filter extensions, AppleScripts were no longer respected the advanced ‘run’ option instead of opening - changing behaviour between releases is a bad thing, especially when it’s undesirable new behaviour.
  • Improvements to the representation of the new Global Hotkey ‘selected text to Alfred’ in his clipboard history, showing the source app. Also, make this things reliable by making Alfred wait for the selected text if nothing is reported immediately.
  • And today… without the Powerpack active, the new Alfred ‘help’ keyword was showing as the top default fallback instead of Google - oops, this one isn’t good at all!

I have just pushed build 189 which fixes that last issue to the pre-release auto updater which I really hope is the general release candidate for Monday.

Cheers,
Andrew
